An experiment was carried out using a ‘snap-like’ game to determine the effect a lag has on syntactic priming and the lexical boost. The experiment was concerned with the syntactic priming effects of children using adults as the control group. Both verb and lag were manipulated within the experiment, with all participants seeing all conditions. We aimed to fill a gap in current literature by including all these variables. The basic idea was to determine whether priming was affected by a lag and if this was different between the groups and also whether the lexical boost effect was affected by a lag and if this differed. We believed that there would be a priming effect in both groups but that children would prime more easily and would be stronger than adults. We also believed that the lexical boost would last longer in children and would be stronger as well. The key findings were that there was no difference in priming between adults and children and that the lexical boost is short-lived. The findings support a multi-factorial account based on implicit learning and explicit memory.
