The land registration is vital to land tenure which is relevant to issues about ownership, possession or other rights. The important element to support the claim of the person entitled to the land is evidence. Currently, the way to collect the evidence mainly relies on professional land surveyors and institutions for the guarantee of land regulation. As for crofters, it leads to challenges to implement land registration due to the higher fees for proper land professionals and overly complex registration procedures. Since smartphone-based LBS are widely used in daily life, the widespread smartphones and other portable devices are providing citizens with the opportunity to participate in land registration. Mobile phones equipped with variable functions, such as video recording, make it possible for crofters to capture and maintain information about their land rights directly. This project explores the feasibility of utilizing Android-based mobile application to record crofters’ walking trajectories and extracting land boundaries from gathered data as an effective and affordable method to implement land registration. To this end, Croft Trace was designed as an Android Application to collect GPS coordinates data along croft boundary. An algorithm including the data preprocessing and boundary generation was also implemented using Python. Through the analysis and experiment on the main function modules, this system can be stable and well operated. In addition, the accuracy of data records can be ensured, which can basically meet the needs of croft land administration.en
