Gastric Ulcer is an affection of the stomach
beginning in the mucous membrane, and sometimes extending through all the coats of that organ by a
process of the nature of a necrosis.
Oases of gastric ulcer have been recorded from
the 16th.century,and even earlier, but it was not until Matthew Baillie in 1793,and later Cruveilhier in
1829,gave an accurate anatomical and clinical description that the disease was established as a definite entity.
