Founded in 1580, Edinburgh University Library is one of the largest and most important academic libraries in the world. The Library primarily serves the University's teaching and research needs, and its collections are dispersed over many sites. The increasing provision and demand for full-text and other data in electronic form, alongside the print, manuscript, and other hard-copy collections assembled over the Library's 400-year old history, means that EUL is a hybrid library. It provides access to, and document delivery services based on, information in all formats, each one complementing and assisting the others.
