The major themes of the Centre for Neuroscience Research are Neural development and its relationship to repair mechanisms, Neuronal cell death and survival, Axonal and synaptic degeneration, Pain - as a response to neural injury and degeneration, Cognitive neuroscience. A theme that links each of these research areas is Development, Degeneration and Repair.

The CNR also co-ordinates Neuroscience Training Programs for postgraduate students at Masters (MSc) and/or Doctoral (PhD) levels.
